Feeling Like a Sugarcoated Pumpkin?

Does Halloween leave you feeling like a sugarcoated pumpkin?

When I was in the corporate world, every Halloween season I would keep a giant jack-o-lantern stocked with candy for my office mates.

The problem was, it led to me eating countless mini candy bars throughout the day as I worked away in my cube. This triggered insatiable sugar cravings and binges for weeks to come.

These days, I have zero desire to eat candy. I’m often amazed by how drastically my relationship with sugar has changed.

I tamed my sweet tooth by experimenting with and implementing numerous different strategies, some of which I have shared with you, such as this one and this one.

Following is another one of my craving busters, which coincides perfectly with the fall season.

Eat Sweet Veggies
To satisfy your natural human desire for sweet flavors, add more sweet vegetables to your meals, such as:

  • Carrots
  • Beets
  • Sweet potatoes
  • Yams
  • Winter squash (e.g., butternut, acorn, kabocha, delicata)
  • Corn

Roasting these veggies brings out even more of their natural sweetness. Be sure, however, to skip sugar-loaded, fiber-less veggie drinks like carrot juice.

Eating more sweet veggies will enable you to enjoy some mild, healthy sweetness in your diet while diminishing your cravings for sugar-loaded junk foods with harsh side effects.
