Greens Spring Clean Challenge

With spring just around the corner, I know many of you are in the mood for a little spring cleaning. Well, there's nothing like greens to keep you clean.

These veggie superheroes can wipe out winter sludge renewing your body and mind in preparation for the lighter days of summer.

If you're yearning to feel more lean and light in your body and mind, than dive into my Greens Spring Clean Challenge below.

First, here are five rock-solid reasons to add greens to your daily diet:

1. Nutritional Powerhouses
Some of the most nutrient-rich foods on our planet, dark leafy greens, like kale, collards, turnip greens, Swiss chard and dandelion, can:

  • Reduce inflammation (the root of all disease)
  • Decrease cancer and diabetes risk
  • Lower cholesterol
  • Detoxify your body
  • Improve circulation
  • Strengthen your immune system
  • Boost energy and mood
  • Alleviate depression

2. Keep You Clean & Lean
Packed with fiber, greens are quite filling and keep your digestive system running smoothly. By piling half your plate with greens, you'll get a whopping dose of nutrients and likely eat fewer calories overall.

3. Fast & Easy
Easy to wash and fast to prepare, greens are the perfect veg for simple weeknight dinners. Check out my five-minute recipes below.

4. Cheap Eats
Just one to three bucks a bundle, greens are darn cheap, especially considering the mega dose of nutrients they provide.

5. Crazy Compatible (and Delicious!)
Greens pair well with just about everything and can be eaten raw, steamed, sauteed, roasted, boiled or pickled. I love greens mixed with beans, stirred into soup, or blended into a smoothie. Heck, I even pile sauteed greens on top of peanut-butter toast!

Greens Spring Clean Challenge
To help you get into the habit of adding greens to your daily diet, I challenge you to eat a serving of greens four to five days a week. Even if you're dining on takeout pizza, serve it with a side of greens.

If you're already a great greens eater, experiment with new varieties and recipes.

Focus on adding in greens for a month and feel what a difference it makes. You'll soon be feeling lighter, leaner and cleaner. Kale yeah!
